I wish if you come in Croatia(ex Yu),again...
love ya..
You had to know something special was about to happen when you run into Perry Farrell on the wrong floor of the hotel and then thirty minutes later you walk into the John Varvatos store on the Bowery that was previously the legendary CBGB club and there he is singing "Sympathy For The Devil" at a sound check backed by Matt Sorum's Camp Freddy band.
When John Varvatos converted the old CBGB space into his store, he preserved the spirit of the music throughout the room. The place is in good hands. And when he converted it back into a rock club for the night, it sorta became CBGB again. The bar was nicer, but in the same place. The stage was further forward and on the left side, rather than the right, but who's measuring, it was close enough for rock n roll.
And rock n roll was in the air.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the launch of his design brand, Varvatos not only remade his store for the night, but also took over the next-door Morrison Hotel rock n roll photo gallery, and the private bar downstairs beneath both places. And he invited a few (hundred) friends, including Alice, Perry, Matt, Ian Hunter, Handsome Dick Manitoba, Wayne Kramer, Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill from ZZ Top, Cherie Currie, Jason Bonham, Jesse Malin, Alejandro Escovedo, and more. There's no way to even begin to list the other celebs in the house that night, for fear of forgetting some. Supermodels, movie stars, rock stars, sports stars, TV stars.
Cherie sang "Cherry Bomb" and more. Ian Hunter sang "All The Young Dudes" and more. Handsome Dick and Wayne Kramer did "Kick Out The Jams" and kicked 'em out mightily. The sharp dressed (bearded) men of ZZ Top rocked the house. At the stroke of midnight, Alice took to the stage with Matt & the Camp Freddy gang, and cranked it up a notch, opening with "You Really Got Me," one of his favorite Kinks klassiks, and then "I'm Eighteen" followed by "School's Out." The show continued, with Perry delivering the goods with "Sympathy For The Devil" in fine form. And there was more, so much more.
Alice was in rare form, chatting animatedly with one and all.
It was a night to savor, to remember, to tell your friends about, to search for on You Tube. What are you waiting for?
