Jeannette Charles always thought it was funny when people pointed out her resemblance to the then Princess Elizabeth when she was a teenager.

It was only in 1972 when she commissioned an artist to paint a portrait of her for her husband's birthday that her appearance brought her attention.

The artist who painted her picture wrote about her likeness in her local newspaper the Essex Chronicle.

Mrs Charles related how the story was picked up by the national media with the word "look-a-like" coined by a Daily Express reporter.

Lying on the floor of the visitor’s dugout at Yankee Stadium, immobilized by the searing pain he felt from a torn ligament in his left shoulder, Lee was attacked by an angry Yankee fan and forced to fend him off with his cleats while waiting for security to come to his aid.

In May 1976, my Dad took me to Detroit’s venerable Tiger Stadium for my first major league ballgame, a Sunday afternoon contest between the pre-"Birdmania" Tigers and the eventual AL champion Yankees. Though just a little over 60 years old at the time, "The Corner" at Michigan and Trumbull (formerly known as Briggs Stadium and Navin Field) seemed ancient and starkly beautiful in its decrepitude, with the ghosts of Tigers past far outnumbering the paying customers. Watching a ballgame there felt something like attending gladiatorial contests at the Roman Coliseum.
