News : Steve Hunter Announces Plans To Work On Solo Album, Staying Home This Year

February 11, 2012 | 12:09 PM

As many of you may have read, this morning our friend and coconspirator Steve Hunter posted the following announcement on his Facebook Page:

"Hello all my peeps and fans. I have an announcement to make. I have spent many weeks mulling this over...losing sleep. For many reasons both personal and professional I have reluctantly decided not to join Alice Cooper onstage this year. None of the reasons has to do with my health which is very good at the moment. Nor do any have anything to do with my poor eyesight, because I was able to find ways around my impairment to enable me to perform and play guitar onstage. Nor is Alice any part of the reasons I have made this decision. He is a brother to me and we share a real history. I think it’s time I move on. I have a solo album to finish among other things. I will miss all the beautiful people I met last year. I will miss glancing over to my right and seeing Alice belting out 18 again. I hope you all understand and aren’t disappointed in me. But I think I have to do this. I hope to see you all out there again one day soon. Thanks for understanding and God bless!"

Having Steve back on stage has been an honor, he's one of the greatest guitarists in the world and we will certainly miss him this year.  Plans are already in motion to fill his spot on stage, which will be no easy task.  We'll make another announcement when we've made a decision.

Well... Keri Kelli is great, too. But I think Roxie's a little bit better =D

Please bring Roxie back! He's great! =D

Loved Steve in Atlanta back in december. I would like to see a keyboard addition to the band at least for a while. Welcome 2 really has quite a bite lot of piano. Loved the hymns for guitar. Rock on Steve!

Best of luck Steve and you will be missed. I am sure it will be hard choice for Alice to replace you but I know he will do whats best for the Group.

    Cathey

That sucks : ( I was hoping Steve Hunter was going to tour the Welcome 2 My Nightmare tour. Hopefully he may reconsider for when that tour starts. First the great Dick Wagner can't tour because of his health and now Steve Hunter leaves the band : (

Both Wagner and Hunter made great contributions to Welcome 2 My Nightmare. I want to see them in the band !!!!!!!!! Alice is always great, but add these two to the mix and that put's it over the top. Welcome 2 My Nightmare is a testament to that.

    please bring roxie back

This is a no brainer........Bring back Keri Kelli

Roxie isn't a no brainer! He's a great guitarist! Keri Kelli is great, too.

Alice you always choose genius musicians, we are so happy at shows; we trust you with closed eyes, next guitarist replacing Steve will for sure be worthy the King of Shock Rock!

It was awesome to see Steve Hunter again twice this past summer since 1975.

Thanks so much and all the best Mr. Hunter! C u again!

Too bad, Steve's a cool ax man for Alice. I am thankful for the seven shows I saw this past year with 'em. Three guitar players seemed to work well, can't wait to see who's next.

This is not very welcomed news, that's for sure.

I am so happy to have had the chance to see him play live.

I also was quite fortunate to meet him and talk awhile after a couple of the New Jersey gigs last year.

What a great guitar player Steve is and a great and humble person.

If you haven't picked up his 2 recent instrumental CDs, "Hymns for Guitar" and "Short Stories," you owe it to yourself to do so.

Cheers to Steve for his important contributions to the Alice Cooper story over the years.

All the best to you Steve and to your lovely bride, Karen, it was a distinct honor having met you both!

Please let me audition! I was in line to audition on the Trash tour but Brian Nelson hired the guy right before me. Never even got to audition. CHeck me out in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQMbLty40yw when I was in THE GODZ circa 1990.

    And this one from 1994 -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_eLwvz-f1I

All I'm asking for is a shot at an audition. Tell me where and when and I'll be there!

It was terrific seeing Steve this year.  His soaring solo on "I Am Made of You" is what rock is supposed to sound like.  I'd suggest returning to a 2 guitar assault (3 muddies things up) and maybe getting Ryan Roxie back on board.

Steve Hunter truly Rox! What an honor to see 5 shows and first see him in 1975 with Ace.  Yea!

i hope kane roberts come back...............kane roberts rules

Steve is a great guy... Orianthi was awesome....See if Roxie is has some time....

does this mean that the truth can be told regarding Renfield's passing?

I'll miss him. Saw him last year in Germany. It was really awesome!

The best concert to come to Brisbane (Australia) in a long time. Good luck Steve, Come back Alice.

I'll surely miss his 'sparks of soul' in the Alice Cooper sound. Unbeatable.

Though I have not seen Steve play since Welcome to my Nightmare at the IMA in Flint M. He is still on my top 10 list of greatest guitarist. I'm sure anything he does will be great (just listen to "I Am Made Of You") When his solo does come out....he has a sale here :)

I'm glad I got the opportunity to see him perform with Alice on two separate occations this past summer. He was a great addition to the live ensemble.

I wish him all the best! :)

Sure hope it's Keri or Damon!!!!

Damon is on tour with Thin Lizzy the same time :(
But Keri Kelli is great =D saw him 2010 at the "Theatre of death"-Tour =D It was awesome =D
