These Top 10 metal lists are getting harder and harder. How can you possibly pick just a handful of rocking gentlemen to represent the best that metal has on offer? Yes, there are also frontwomen, and most definitely there are also over 100 great chaps that aren’t on this list. Cutting it down was a tough one. The criteria? Amazing performers, distinctive voice, memorable style and working with a ‘metal’ band (not hard rock, grunge, punk or hardcore). RIP Ronnie James Dio.

10. Alice Cooper (Alice Cooper)
Horror rocker, freaky theatrical metal king, fashion icon (kinda) and… Wayne’s World actor! Go Coop! He’s 63 years old and still rocks like a hurricane. He’s survived and won over multiple rock genres and still sounds amazing. Legend.

    just goes to show that NME don't know ****! along with the r n' r HOF! they inducted the sex pistols first, and they only had 1 album! how these people get recognition as "music experts" confounds the hell out of me!

    Often imitated, NEVER duplicated Alice Cooper should be at the top of that list. The man is a dynamo & genius that still rocks harder than most guys half his age. His voice so unique is has been said in major news artlicles "his voice makes the blood run cold." He changed the entire "face" of rock music forever. Best of all, he's a gentleman.

    Alice should be numero uno-he showed all the rest how to do it. They copied him or they would'nt have made it. He's always been large & in charge, in your face whether you like it or not. If you didn't like he'd just say, "I never cared anyway!" orignal, unique, groundbreaker, most unusual recognizable voice, & a name you'll never forget., Alice changed a whole generation & the type of music they listened to. Despite difficulties from nay sayers around the world & much controversy around him & problems for his family, he stood his ground & spit in their eye. He still proudly does. Often imitated, never duplicated,. We love Alice.

    Alice should be in the top 5 for sure ousting Mike Patton. Slipknot singer no f'n way. Klause Meine from Scorpions belongs in the top 10 without a doubt.
