News Item : Alice: GaGa's So Good It Scares Me

November 1, 2010 | 9:13 AM

FOR 40 years ALICE COOPER has pioneered shock rock, pushing the boundaries of taste and decency.
And the old fella reckons the dark arts he started are in safe hands with LADY GAGA.

The veteran rocker, who has "died" on stage more than 60,000 times, believes the hamster wheel-wearing, teacup-holding character in the meat dress is the new queen of Halloween - and his natural successor.

He said: "I would imagine this year there's going to be ten million Lady GaGas dressed up trick or treating.
"She's great because she gets it, but she can back it up.
"She can sing, she can write, she can play piano, she's not just a costume queen.
"You can be as outrageous as you wanna be, as long as you can back it up with the music.
"She said if you're gonna do it, go as far out on a limb as you can, like Alice Cooper did.
"She's totally outrageous. Lady GaGa's already in the history of rock 'n' roll."
Alice plays London's Camden Roundhouse tomorrow night and Monday evening with all sorts of scary antics - including blood, gore and decapitation.

I am 18 (fitting age) and i know this scene pretty well, not a huge fan of it... but I put up with it for the social interaction, if all is understood, and I will agree with the fact that of the new pop artist generations, gaga would be my first pick for the new age shock value, but the decision is made simply due to the fact that no one else in the mainstream is trying very hard to be different, naked women and *shudder* autotunes *shudder* sell, and now-a-days, if you try to build on something someone else has done (more or less trying to follow the small pocket of shock created by gaga), you become a "mimic" and are generally disregarded as such. It takes alot of talent or something incredibly different than the last which, in the confines set now, means you are carving out a completely different niche, and you tend to drop out of the "pop" spotlight. My oppinion, i hate to say it but, unless you look at the less popular music, you wont find anything all that much better (though the best is still obscenely far from the original splendor) Alice, Great tunes, keep touring, and hit Canada up some time, Ottawa and Victoria are in need of a good show P.S. Your music was my early introduction to the world of Rock, a debt of gratitude good sir

brian man totally right its  a little sad to say but i dont know if gaga likes rock n roll why she has to play bubblegum pop? she only sells by putting naked chicks on her videos  now everybody does that and wins millions that makes me sick you know kiss did it in the 80's motley crue does too and alice does too but is a different way (well alice and the others not so naked maybe only the chick in the poison video) the deal is that the  not only put the chicks the beers they put real worked music called rock n roll sorry mr cooper but i had to say that not agree at all with you

Sorry to say this, but as cool as Alice Cooper is, this is terrifying...and not in a good way.

Lady Gaga has very little talent in today's world, but these days you don't need talent; all you need is marketability and sex appeal. Pretty much, if you can look good half-naked on the cover of Rolling Stone, then you're good enough to be a star. It sickens me.

I still like Alice and have a deep respect for him, but this just isn't right. Lady Gaga is nowhere near as talented, memorable and as shocking as Alice Cooper.

although i like cooper, it seems this gaga comment is more horrifying than the man himself. well so ends my recent foray into the cooper music. guess i'll move onto another artist.

One thing is dying on stage in a great rock show. Another thing is dying slowly of bordom in the dark, gloomy, rainy and snowy country of Norway! Long live, and dies, Alice Cooper! You can keep Norway.

"The veteran rocker, who has "died" on stage more than 60,000 times" Thats a tad too much, isn't it?  Let's say he has played an average of 150 gigs per year for 40 years...that's 6000 gigs. On this latest Theatre Of Death-tour he's being killed 4 times, more times than any other tour.
