Alice Cooper: Lady Gaga is 'not just a costume freak'

By Bill Keveney

Presenter Alice Cooper explained the secret for his longevity. "If you can take that animated character and leave him up there … leave him onstage and then you can co-exist with him. As soon as I'm offstage, Alice stays there."

He praised Lady Gaga, both in appearance and performance. "I think anybody who takes it as vaudeville as she has taken it is OK by me. … Lady Gaga sang with Elton John tonight and nailed it. She proved she's not just a costume freak. … She's going to be around as long as she wants."

He also talked about what it was like to become a golfer. "I had to be a closet golfer when I started because it was so against my image. It was one of those things when I stopped drinking I had to find something to take that time up."
